Dine in Los Angeles Style at Ford’s Filling Station

Friends! You’ve GOT to try Ford’s Filling Station at the J.W. Marriott at LA Live in Los Angeles. My friend Jade and I had dinner there last week and I am still dreaming of some of the amazing food we had that night! I love that Ford’s Filling Station was created as a concept for the people of the community and is meant to be a place to refuel the mind, body and spirit.
The atmosphere here is beautiful. It’s bright and airy with an open-space layout. I loved how despite the layout that it shares with the JW Marriott hotel lobby, you feel like you’re in your own world when you’re in the restaurant. Ford’s Filling Station is the perfect place to refuel before the big game or have a fun girls night out. It’s also a really cute place for a romantic date or a birthday dinner.
We started our experience with some complimentary champagne while we poured over the amazing menu. I’m a pescatarian so there were a few choices for me to dive into and Jade is an omnivore so she had the full range of the menu. I still had a difficult time deciding what to get because my choices all sounded amazing. I’m so happy with my selections though! The theme is Chef Ben Ford’s take on California comfort food using sustainable, regional cuisine showcased in his original ‘gastropub’ concept. You can definitely tell from browsing the menu.
So Jade got the smoked brisket taquitos which she said were amazing. I got the octopus sopes, which were OMG GOOD. When I mentioned still dreaming about some of the food here, this is what I was talking about. I love me a good sope and these were some of the best I’ve ever had. The appetizer portions were definitely big enough to share with a guest or two.
Ok, I have to take a minute to talk about the cocktails. I got the West Side and Jade got the Vida Vida. Both were amazingly delicious. I had such a hard time choosing what cocktail to get because the craft cocktail menu is amazing. Ford’s Filling Station is worth coming by for a drink or two alone – although I wouldn’t pass up the food either once you’re here!
Dinner time! Jade ended up choosing the crispy chicken with mamaposteo (which is a Puerto Rican bean and rice dish) and she loved it! She was raving about the mamaposteo and I don’t blame her. It looked so good. I chose the pan roasted salmon with quinoa and these amazing fried chickpeas. The chef prepared my salmon just the way I wanted it and the meal was delicious. The quinoa with the chickpeas is something I want to try making at home but I seriously doubt I’ll be able to prepare it as good as it is at Ford’s Filling Station.
The dessert. Talk about perfect. We got the old fashioned biscuit donuts and the warm berry cobbler. The donuts were these perfect little nuggets of dough and sugar and a praline sauce. And that cobbler came with a lemon yogurt ice cream that was divine. This was definitely the way to end our amazing dinner date!
