Halloween is by far my favorite holiday of the year. I have been obsessed with all things macabre ever since I was a kid. The first non-kid’s book I read was Stephen King’s Pet Sematary when I was like eight years old. That was also around the time I began watching “horror” television shows like Sightings and Tales from the Crypt. Not to get too psychoanalytical, but I think my love of all things horror had a lot to do with finding healthy ways to channel my anxiety as a kid. And it worked! And still does!
Halloween isn’t just about scary ghosts and witches though. I also love spending time with the kids in my family on this day. Seeing them in their costumes and running on sugar highs makes my day. I recently went to a pumpkin patch with my nephew, my goddaughter, her little brother, and their cousin. It was a really great day – they got to play in some bounce houses, go on some super slides, and pet some cute animals in the petting zoo. All before picking out their own pumpkins to take home! It was an epic day to say the least!
So tonight I’m going out with a bunch of friends to a circus/sideshow type of event. I will tell you all about my obsession with sideshows another day though. Maybe I will even share one of my costumes with you (I am wearing two today – I’m dressing up as Belle from Beauty & the Beast for work and then a creepy marionette doll at night)!
Until then, I am leaving you with this awesome Halloween song called “Haunted House” by Jumpin’ Gene Simmons. Seriously, listen to it. It makes me happy and I think it will make you happy too.
Happy Halloween, my darlings!! ♥
